Wexford born Tom O'Brien looks a future Champion Jockey.
He displayed a Champion's impatience and determination to succeed when he left his native Ireland after being frustrated by not being able to obtain enough top rides.
His rise to the top since arriving at Phillip Hobbs, Somerset stables in 2004 could be described as meteoric. He was Champion amateur in his first full season (2005/6) and by mid December 2006 had ridden 76 winners for a 24% win race ratio.
Tom turned professional early in 2006 and soon lost his claim (weight allowance given to inexperienced riders).
